The Triathlon Trilogy
I find that triathletes, even more than cyclists and runners, have a strong sense of fellowship and community. As much as I enjoy the competition, I also look forward to the time before and after the race when I spend time chatting with my fellow participants.
A big part of the athlete experience is what I call the “casual coaching” that goes on. People share tips, tricks, and advice gained from experience. This can be especially beneficial for newer, inexperienced participants, but it is also valuable to race veterans.
This is the “essentially simple, yet infinitely intricate” part of sport and life. Triathlon is fairly simple, right? Swim, bike, run. How hard is that? At one level, not too complicated. But once you explore below the surface, it can be very intricate, indeed.
How can you learn the basics when you start, or master the intricacies as you develop? You do so by learning from others, or by teaching others. Sharing – making connections – is a powerful part of life-long learning.
Triathlon has taught me a lot, so I strive to give back. I want to engage with others in the form of casual coaching. I like to think that I have a lot of practical information, insight, and inspiration to share. To this end, I developed “The Triathlon Trilogy.”
The Triathlon Trilogy is a series of three seminars, each about 45-50 minutes long. The series discusses basic, practical elements of triathlon targeted to new and novice triathletes. I designed the series to cover topics not always addressed by formal coaching sessions. I want people to ask questions and learn new things.
If you are in the Pittsburgh, PA, area, I’d love to share The Triathlon Trilogy with you directly, either as a whole or as standalone sessions. And wherever you are, I would like to provide the handouts from the series as a way of passing on some of the “wisdom” I have gained.
